Heather Pendley
Pendley's Pro Editing & Indexing

When I was given a manual typewriter at the age of 10, I discovered my love for words and imagined my future as a novelist. However, I soon abandoned my word-loving ways for steady work in finance. Along the way, I earned a bachelor's in business management with a minor in accounting, but business wasn't my passion.

Several years ago, I returned to my Word Nerd calling by becoming a freelance copy editor, proofreader, and creator of back-of-the-book and embedded (hyperlinked) indexes. Since then, I've completed many courses, including the specialized copyediting program at UCSD and UC Berkeley’s Indexing Theory and Application. As a lifelong Southern California resident, I’m familiar with common United States customs and Latino culture.

I'm often commissioned to index books published by various universities and Macmillan imprints. I pride myself on helping clients to present their best work. I'm not happy unless my client is happy. For the last couple of years, I've been the American Society for Indexing (ASI) indexer training course administrator. I have served as treasurer of SD/Pen, been an elected member of the EFA Board of Governors, and have judged ACES headline contests. When not working, I enjoy time with my family, walking my rescue dogs, and being a volunteer Bible teacher.

I do not edit/index horror, religious, supernatural, erotic, or political material, nor do I review books for my clients.
