I grew up in Oakland, California, but I've lived in Minneapolis since 1993 because I actually like snow. I also appreciate the Twin Cities' vibrant literary and artistic communities. My perspective as a manuscript editor and writing coach has been enriched by creative writing classes at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.
I've worked in book publishing since 1998. I've been an in-house editor at a small publisher, and I was part of a twelve-year partnership business providing book production and consulting services to authors and publishers. In 2018 I founded Wright for Writers LLC, a solo business focused on writing coaching, editing, and publishing consulting.
Over the course of my career I've worked on a wide range of books in a variety of genres. I've developed a deep knowledge of book design and other publishing standards, and I am a skilled project manager.
As a writing coach I work with writers at any stage of the creative process and offer tools, resources, and constructive feedback to support them in refining their craft and pursuing their goals.
As a developmental editor I identify big-picture strengths and weaknesses and work with the author to make revisions that improve the book's overall argument or narrative and enable it to speak to its intended readership more effectively. Books I've edited have been finalists or winners of a number of awards, including the Minnesota Book Awards, the Nautilus Awards, and the Writer's Digest Awards.
In my role as a consultant I help clients understand their options and choose the best route for meeting their publishing goals. As a project manager for self-publishing authors, I lead a team of skilled publishing professionals to produce high-quality books. I collaborate with my indie author clients throughout the process, advising them on their marketing plans and helping them navigate publishing systems.
In addition to my solo business, I'm a co-founder of Wholehearted Writers LLC. My three colleagues and I create programming for writers that encourages them to be their whole selves as they pursue their creative dreams.
I am a member of the LGBTQ+ Editors Association.
