I got my start in editing as a graduate student in musicology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, when I served as editorial assistant for the Journal of the American Musicological Society. In 2019, three years after completing my PhD, I launched my freelance editing business with a focus on helping first-time scholarly book authors get their manuscripts ready to submit. Drawing on my college-level teaching experience (seven years as an adjunct!), I also specialize in editing textbooks and other teaching material, including open-access resources. I completed the indexing training course from the American Society for Indexing in 2022, and I have indexed more than 25 books in music and related fields.
I also enjoy teaching skills to other editors! I presented on Advanced Track Changes in Microsoft Word for PEN in February 2024—if you're a member, you can access the recording in the Technology section. After presenting on the same topic for ACES VCON24 and the Editors Tea Club, I developed those presentations into a self-paced, hands-on course, Clear Communication with Microsoft Word’s Track Changes.
