I write and help others to develop clear, well-written, and actionable documents. I translate complex technical concepts into plain language while retaining an appropriate amount of technical language to accurately convey meaning; it's a balance.
I spent more than 25 years at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, supporting and leading a wide range of scientific, technical, and policy projects. I recruited and collaborated closely with mid-level and senior subject matter experts across academia, industry, and government to produce reports and white papers across an exceptionally wide range of topics. To give a feel for the breadth, a sampling of topics includes occupational safety and health, the disposal of conventional and chemical munitions, cosmology, Army science and technology policy, security for operational technology and control systems, facility and real property management, and laboratory assessments.
In addition to writing and editing, I am skilled at leading negotiations among subject matter experts and facilitating consensus-building even while having no formal authority. I managed the entire process of developing and releasing documents that met all required elements and complied with specified styles and institutional policies.
In my early career, I was a DoD physicist and contributed to or was the first author on a number of technical reports.
