Kimberly Laurel is a certified freelance copyeditor and proofreader.
Her mission is to support writers in publishing with confidence. With a vast consumption of works across all genres, strong attention to detail, and obsession with correct grammar and syntax, she meticulously tackles each manuscript. She believes in partnering with an author to preserve their voice while ensuring clarity and a polished final product. Her approach includes drawing attention to both well-constructed and problematic areas, while providing suggested solutions for the latter.
She is well versed in the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed., while also able to swiftly adjust to in-house style guides. Editing references/bibliographies is one of her specialities, and she has significant experience conforming them to both Chicago and MLA. She received her editing certification through the University of Washington. Prior to that, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Honors, magna cum laude, from Union College. She has been copyediting and proofreading technical documents for a decade; she moved into editing contemporary + speculative fiction and scholarly + academic nonfiction five or so years ago.
When not helping clients, she’s being dragged down the street by her giant breed dog, attempting to Kondo-ize her life, or collecting giant mugs from which to drink way too much tea.
