I am a freelance copy editor and proofreader for healthcare and business documents. I also do academic editing in the social sciences (APA style).
I've worked in the healthcare industry for 16+ years. For seven of those years, I served in progressive leadership roles at a Medicaid/Medicare managed care health plan. In these roles, I wrote and edited program plans, regulatory reports, policies, newsletter articles, business proposals, executive summaries, annual reports, health promotion materials, and more. Prior to that, I worked in public health research, where I worked on academic research studies, writing and editing related documents. I have also worked in disability and occupational health examination services reviewing medical reports for quality assurance.
Strong written communication, attention to detail, and meeting deadlines have always been essential parts of my career, and I would say contributed to much of my success. As an editor, I provide a final set of eyes to make sure documents have appropriate spelling, grammar, formatting, word usage, and consistency.
I earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, with a specialization in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science, from San Diego State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from UC San Diego Rady School of Management.
I proofread and copyedit healthcare articles, books, medical-legal reports, academic manuscripts, dissertations, websites, blogs, business plans, marketing materials, and related nonfiction documents. Due to my background in healthcare, social sciences, and business, I am naturally inclined to edit content in those fields. I have experience in public health research, health promotion, mental health, disability and exam services, epidemiology, health insurance, health communication, and business operations.
I also provide sensitivity (authenticity) reading services from a Mexican American/Latina/female perspective.
