Martha Carlson
Martha Carlson, Editor, LLC

I am a fiction editor and writing coach with more than twenty years of experience. I offer developmental editing, manuscript assessments, line editing, and coaching to writers of literary and upmarket fiction. If your work is voice- and character-driven and if you love carefully crafted prose, I would love to talk with you about your work in progress. My goal is to work closely with writers to help them enhance their fiction, while honoring their vision and voice, and my services are customizable. Manuscript-assessment coaching, for example, is a budget-friendly way to receive feedback on your manuscript via a Zoom consultation. If a writer has received a full developmental editing pass, for another example, and later wants feedback on just one revised chapter or one scene, we can do that. My website describes my services. I have recently edited literary fiction coming-of-age novels, an upmarket dystopian novel, a thriller set in the 1930s, short story collections, and novels focused on family relationships. If you long for clarity, specific suggestions, and supportive insights, let’s talk about your writing project. Let me put my experience as an editor, a writer, and a teacher to work for you. My goal is to serve your voice and vision, even in those moments when you feel you’ve lost your way. You can see what my clients think about working with me here.

I also write a blog about writing, reading, and editing fiction: Crafting the Path (https://crafting-the-path.pika.page/).
