Educational Opportunities for Editors

How can an aspiring editor break into the profession? What can a career veteran do to keep their skills fresh or expand into a brand-new area? From internships and conferences to individual classes, certificate programs, and degrees, there are lots of options out there! Come learn about them, ask your questions, and figure out what might be right for you.

This event is free, but registration is required for both members and nonmembers. Click here to register on Zoom. Note that you will also need the Zoom desktop or mobile app to access the meeting.

The following panelists will be speaking and answering questions about their educational experiences.

She is a book editor, author coach, and founder of Dot and Dash LLC, an author-services company helping women writers reach their publishing dreams. She lives in Minneapolis with her hockey-playing husband, her two old cats, and her odd-shaped dog. Erin is a member of both ACES and PEN.

Allison Juda is a 2015 graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute. Since her time at DPI, she has worked at several school and library publishers, with roles including photo researcher, editor, product planning editor, and manager of partnership management. She is currently an editor at Bearport Publishing Company.

Kellie M. Hultgren, owner of KMH Editing, attended the Radcliffe (now Columbia) Publishing Course, earned her MA in Liberal Studies—Publishing from Hamline University in 2008, and has completed a variety of other courses, webinars, and workshops over the course of her career. In addition to working in-house at several Twin Cities publishers, she has been a freelance editor and consultant for publishers, corporations, and writers for more than twenty years. Kellie is a member of PEN and the Editorial Freelancers Association and the current vice president of the Minnesota Book Publishers’ Roundtable board.
