Avoid the Knowledge Gap in Your Editing

How to Know What You Don’t Know

Ever read a passage and sensed that something was off, but without knowing what? You may be on the edge of a knowledge gap, and identifying those gaps before you fall in is a skill you can practice and develop. PEN member Kellie M. Hultgren will dig into the roles of instinct and intuition in editing and share stories of the editorial “spider sense” in action. Then we’ll investigate some common knowledge gaps and how to avoid, bridge, or fill them; situations where hunches can lead you astray; and techniques for recognizing gaps before they become a problem.

Nonmembers may attend up to two free Professional Editors Network meetings before becoming a member.
