Mystery and Crime Editing
Each genre has its own challenges and rewards for editors, and mystery and crime are no exception. Learn some of the key considerations in editing whodunits, thrillers, and related types of fiction, such as incorporating the types of clues that fit the story; heightening suspense, pacing, and tension; examining character motivations, goals, and the main motives for the crime and how to strengthen them; handling violence without it coming across as gratuitous; and treating sensitive subject matter with an informed and delicate touch. Learn how to ensure that writing outside the author’s lived experience is done respectfully but still true to the genre, and how to advise the author when writing is problematic—all while keeping the author’s voice and intent at the forefront.
Registration will be available closer to the event date.
